Vinyl Siding Weep Holes

  1. Caulking weep holes to "clean up" the siding line. It looks tidier for a season and traps water behind the panel for years.
  2. Using leftover interior painter's caulk on an exterior gap. Interior acrylic latex isn't rated for the movement or UV exposure an exterior joint sees.
  3. Skipping the backer rod on a wide gap. A bead with no backer bonds on three sides instead of two, and tears at a fraction of its rated movement class.
